This review is from: Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde: Life Stories about Food (Hardcover). As someone who also knows what it means to miss New Orleans, I was entranced from the get-go by this title alone. These are personal stories filled with personality and an authentic love for Louisiana, for family, and, of course, for FOOD! The book is not so much edited as curated by Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, and her genuine affection for the stories and the folks who tell them (and the recipes, thank you very much) shines through on every page. One of the delightful things about having a meal with friends in New Orleans is the way the conversation always comes round to a series of stories about other great meals we have had – at a restaurant, a friend’s house, at your mama’s table or whipped up in your own kitchen. As in this book, the stories engender more stories and the warmth and sense of comfort and well-being just grows and glows. So grab a cup of something warm (or chilled), put up your feet, and enjoy some good-spirited memories. You’ll be hungry when you’re done, so then you can choose a recipe and get in that kitchen, y’all!
